Better Relationship ? Working Out to Make it Work | Tantra to Love?

By Michael Lee, MA

If you are in a relationship, or have ever been in one, there is a 60% chance that you will experience or have experienced what it?s like to fail in that area of life.? Ok?. maybe ?fail? is a strong word and perhaps we should use the gentler term? ?experienced difficulty relating meaningfully?.? Either way, the experience generally sucks!? At one time you experienced the blissful feeling of being in love and at another time you?ve felt the devastation of feeling separated from that love. ? ?How does this happen so easily??, we might wonder?

Usually it begins with a failure to communicate. ? For whatever reason, one or both parties begin to withhold from the other in fully communicating.? This can be caused by any number of factors ? fear, laziness, infidelity, assuming too much, hurt, anger, irritation, in-laws, not feeling well, lack of privacy, stress, time pressures, work, and so on.

Good relationships depend heavily on good communication and spaciousness around that communication.? Take that away and it won?t take long for the rot to set in and it?s downhill from there. ? A great marriage coach I know says that a relationship has to be ?fit? just like our bodies need to be fit to stay healthy.? In order to make a relationship strong, both parties have to do some relationship workouts on a regular basis.? Often we don?t build enough time into lives to create some ?relationship muscle? with our partner.? So step one, is plan a time for a relationship workout.

Then do some exercises. ? My preferred ones often include a Mind-Body Approach.? To me, my body is my most reliable tool of communication.? It cannot tell me lies like my mind can and, if I?m open to it, can reveal so much and communicate so much in a very short time. ? Here is one of my favorite exercises for you to try that might help you build some muscle in your relationship.

This exercise is only for maintaining or strengthening an already functioning relationship. ?It is not intended as relationship therapy.

Sit on the floor facing your partner with your knees touching.? (Chairs can work fine too if you don?t like sitting on the floor).? Turn the palms of your hands to face each other and move them toward each others hands slowly.? Take some time.? Let the hands come close but not touching.? Hold them there for a few moments and breathe.? Close your eyes for a few breaths and just feel what is happening.? Right there, in the moment, ask yourself ?what is happening now??. ?Open your eyes and then draw your hands away from your partners.? Close your eyes again and focus.? Ask ?what?s happening now??.? ? Then open eyes and move hands towards each other slowly but this time allow them to touch. ? Close eyes and repeat the question. ? These three sequences should take about 5 minutes.? Don?t use a timer though, just sense the time and don?t worry if you are a little out of synch with your partner.? Just wait for him or her to get to the same place you are.

At the end of the exercise turn away from your partner and privately answer these questions for yourself.? ?What did I notice about myself at each stage of this experience??? ?What was I feeling??? ?What was I thinking??.

Then turn to your partner and share with each other your answers to your questions.? When your partner speaks, simply listen.? No conversation, no explanation, no questions,? ? just listen.

Then turn away again and ask yourself two more questions.? ?What did I learn about me??.? And ?What did I learn about my partner??. ?Turn and share your answers. ?Try it and see what happens!

'Possession' remains No. 1 at weak box office

LOS ANGELES (AP) ? "The Possession" occupied the top spot at a nearly comatose box office.

The fright flick with Kyra Sedgwick and Jeffrey Dean Morgan playing the parents of a girl possessed by a demon earned $9.5 million in its second outing, the lowest grossing weekend for the box office this year and one of the worst weekends at the box office in a decade. It marked the first time since 2008 that no film managed to crack the $10 million mark.

The weekend after Labor Day is typically the slowest of the year, but this weekend's grosses were down 20 percent over last year when "Contagion" opened in first place with $22.4 million. Total box office revenues are estimated at $67 million, which would make this the worst weekend at the box office since the weekend after 9/11 when revenues were $59.7 million.

"There just wasn't a strong opener," said Paul Dergarabedian, box-office analyst for Hollywood.com. "We came off a summer than ended with a whimper. There wasn't any momentum. It just comes down to the movies and the marketplace. There's wasn't some extraneous force keeping people out of the theaters. This crop of movies just didn't have that solid draw."

The bootlegging tale "Lawless" starring Shia LaBeouf, Tom Hardy and Jessica Chastain kept a lock on the No. 2 position in its second weekend with $6 million, bringing its total haul to $23.5 million, while "The Words" featuring Bradley Cooper as an aspiring writer and Zoe Saldana as his girlfriend debuted in third place with $5 million.

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Sunday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Hollywood.com. Where available, latest international numbers are also included. Final domestic figures will be released Monday.

1. "The Possession," $9.5 million.

2. "Lawless," $6 million.

3. "The Words," $5 million.

4. "The Expendables 2," $4.7 million.

5. "The Bourne Legacy," $4 million.

6. "ParaNorman," $3.8 million.

7. "The Odd Life of Timothy Green," $3.6 million.

8. "The Campaign," $3.5 million.

9. "The Dark Knight Rises," $3.3 million.

10. "2016: Obama's America," $3.3 million.

Apple?s triumph over Samsung is intoxicating

Here are Samsung Galaxy S III, LG Optimus Elite and HTC One X.?Quickly ? which is which?

That is a question another set of jurors may start pondering sooner rather than later. Samsung is the big fish, already towering over Apple when it comes to quarterly smartphone shipment volumes. But there is no reason why Apple would not start gunning for smaller vendors ? precisely because they are so much more vulnerable. Armed with a powerful precedent, Apple?s case against the next Asian vendors is going to be a lot stronger than it was against Samsung.

HTC and LG are in no position to wage war against Apple. Their smartphone market shares have collapsed over the past two years, HTC diving from 10% to 2.5%. Both companies are facing an exceptionally difficult Christmas period after their summer product roll-outs fizzled. If Apple now goes after them after demonstrating this much courthouse power, all bets are off. The process of redesigning handsets to avoid infringement is going to be laborious and painful for all of the Asian Android vendors.

The weakness of HTC and LG should actually be a major motivating factor for Apple in pursuing these companies as mercilessly as possible. Apple might now have a shot at knocking a one or two rivals out of the smartphone market for good ? not just slap them down for a while. The time to capitalize on Friday?s shock verdict is now.

It just might be that Nokia?s decision to go with a completely new UI look and feel for its Lumia range saved it from a lot of grief. Nokia cut a deal with Apple long ahead of the Samsung trial ? and it now seems that the result of this trial could have put Nokia into a serious disadvantage had the company chosen to drag the process on. It just might be that the jury handed Nokia a substantial strategic smartphone advantage. We?ll see how the Android camp regroups after today?s setback. It is safe to say that the trial result was far harsher on Samsung than almost anyone anticipated.
